A rematch or re-boxing (Japanese: 再戦 rematch) is a 2d or subsequent battle against a Trainer or Pokémon.

In the core series games, it is mandatory for the histrion to defeat certain Trainers to advance within the game. Technically, if the player is defeated, they are given the take a chance to battle this opponent again until defeated (barring infrequent circumstances), but this isn't considered a rematch.

Most of the time, even so, if a Trainer is defeated, that Trainer will not be available for a rematch until certain atmospheric condition have been met. When Trainers commonly agree to rematch, their Pokémon will accept become stronger (level up or evolution), or they would already have acquired more Pokémon (sometimes from another region, one time the histrion has obtained the National Pokédex).

Types of rematch

Regular Trainers

From Generation II onwards, with the exception of Pokémon Black and White and X and Y, some regular Trainers found along normal routes and caves can be challenged for a rematch.

Notation that Trainers accept to be rebattled every bit soon as possible, otherwise the take a chance to practice so will disappear.

In Pokémon Gilded, Silverish, and Crystal, the number of difficulty levels and triggers are defined individually for each Trainer. Sure rematches are bachelor merely in Gold and Silver, while others are only in Crystal. The post-obit events are triggers for new rematches:

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the Trainers' teams take 3 different difficulty levels: the starting time level is used in the first rematch, the second after the player has commencement entered the Hall of Fame, and the tertiary after the player has obtained all 16 Badges.

In Pokémon Crimson, Sapphire, and Emerald, the PokéNav'south Trainer's Eyes or Friction match Call has similar functions to the Pokégear, keeping track of Trainers who eventually want to re-battle the player. Regular Trainers are eligible for rematches after obtaining the Balance Bluecoat; once information technology is obtained, if the histrion is on a map with eligible Trainers, each Trainer on the map has a separate 31% chance to demand a rematch every 255 steps.[1]

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the Trainer'due south Eye function returns, and Trainers are ready for a rematch more than oft than in Generation III; in these games, the Trainers' teams ameliorate every bit the player progresses through the game, and are at their strongest after the thespian has entered the Hall of Fame.

Crimson uses the Vs. Seeker on Route 25. Three Trainers wish to have a rematch.

In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, while outdoors, the thespian can use the Vs. Seeker to randomly make nearby Trainers ready for a rematch. Certain Trainers take stronger teams, depending on how far the player is through the game, as long every bit they have defeated that Trainer's previous political party. New Vs. Seeker parties are unlocked at the following events:

Wild Pokémon from in-game events

Main article: List of wild Pokémon from in-game events

Delight feel costless to edit this section to add together missing data and complete it.
Reason: Are endeavor values awarded in mandatory captures? Do rematches besides use for wild Mythical Pokémon? Stakataka/Blacephalon in USUM: do they reappear if defeated?

In all games, being defeated by a Legendary Pokémon does not cause information technology to disappear. In all games in which roaming Pokémon exist, fleeing from them does not crusade them to permanently disappear; the game simply behaves the same as if they were the ones to abscond.

Prior to Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, fleeing from stationary Legendary Pokémon causes the Pokémon to permanently disappear.

In Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald, if the histrion flees from a stationary Legendary Pokémon, information technology volition reappear upon leaving and re-entering the room. The game informs the thespian that "The <Pokémon> flew away!". If the role player defeats an event exclusive Legendary/Mythical Pokémon, it reappears after the player next enters the Hall of Fame.

In Pokémon Platinum, if the thespian defeats or flees from a stationary Legendary Pokémon, it reappears after the player next enters the Hall of Fame. If the player defeats a roaming Pokémon, it volition reappear only afterward the thespian has re-triggered the event which caused information technology to start roaming; for instance, the actor must talk to Professor Oak to cause a Legendary bird to resume roaming. If the role player flees from or defeats Origin Forme Giratina in the Distortion World, it will reappear in Turnback Cave in its Altered Forme, where it behaves in the same way equally all other stationary Legendary Pokémon.

This was extended to all stationary Pokémon (red Gyarados, Sudowoodo, and Snorlax) in HeartGold and SoulSilver. If Suicune is defeated or fled from, Eusine volition comment on this fact, and it will instead reappear at the Burned Tower, where it behaves in the aforementioned way equally all other stationary Legendary Pokémon. If Ho-Oh HG or Lugia SS is defeated or fled from during the storyline, the Kimono Girls will comment on this fact before leaving; however, the Pokémon still conduct like whatsoever other stationary Pokémon.

In Pokémon Black and White, Reshiram B or Zekrom W must be caught; defeating, fleeing from or losing to the Pokémon does not cause it to disappear, the battle yields no feel, and the story cannot be progressed until it is caught. However, if the thespian has a total party and PC, information technology is possible to progress without catching it, in which case it instead appears at Dragonspiral Tower later on defeating Ghetsis, where it behaves in the same manner equally all other stationary Legendary Pokémon, except that it will still not give any experience points.

In Pokémon X and Y, Xerneas 10 or Yveltal Y must be defenseless; defeating, fleeing from or losing to information technology does not cause it to disappear, the battle yields no experience, and the story cannot exist progressed until it is caught. The 31st box in the Pokémon Storage Arrangement does not become available until later on the thespian catches it, then it is not possible to avoid the capture even if the player's party and PC are both full.

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Blastoff Sapphire, if the player defeats Groudon OR or Kyogre AS instead of catching them in the primary story, they volition reappear in the Cave of Origin after entering the Hall of Fame. During the Delta Episode, Rayquaza must be caught; defeating, fleeing from or losing to it does not cause it to disappear, the boxing yields no experience, and the story cannot be progressed until it is caught. The 31st box in the Pokémon Storage System does not go available until after the player catches Rayquaza, so information technology is non possible to avoid the capture fifty-fifty if the actor's party and PC are both full. If the player flees from or defeats Deoxys in during the Delta Episode, information technology volition reappear at the Dragonhark altar atop the Sky Colonnade later on entering the Hall of Fame over again, where it behaves in the same manner every bit all other stationary Legendary Pokémon.

In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Solgaleo S or Lunala Grand must exist defenseless; defeating, fleeing from or losing to it does non crusade it to disappear, the battle yields no experience, and the story cannot exist progressed until it is caught. The 31st box in the Pokémon Storage System does non become available until afterward the role player catches the Legendary Pokémon. If the player defeats, flees from, or loses to Tapu Koko instead of communicable information technology during the postal service-credits outcome, Lillie volition annotate on this fact, and Tapu Koko will immediately be available to battle again at the Ruins of Conflict. If the role player defeats, flees from or loses to a roaming Ultra Beast or Necrozma, it will continue to reappear in the area until it is caught (the game reassures the player that it is still in the area).

In Pokémon Ultra Dominicus and Ultra Moon, Solgaleo US or Lunala UM must be caught for information technology to disappear; defeating, fleeing from or losing to it does not cause it to disappear and the battle yields no experience. The 31st box in the Pokémon Storage System does not become available until after the player catches the Legendary Pokémon.
